30B430 Book #9: Mockingjay

Another series finished. I made it through the last of the Hunger Games books, Mockingjay.

This book takes us out of The Hunger Games and into a war, with the main characters deeply involved in the rebel forces and living in District 13.

Without giving away too much of the plot, one of the main themes is that good and evil isn't always clearly defined, especially when it comes to war. It provides an interesting comparison to the first book, which was gruesome in it's staged and heavily produced deadly competition. The love triangle that has carried throughout all three books is finally resolved in the end. Although not in a lovey dovey way - that wouldn't have fit with the heaviness of the final book.

I'll be honest that my energy wasn't with this book in the same way that it was the first two. I wanted to know how everything ended, but wanted the end to come faster than it did. There were a few times where I wanted to just put it down, but I powered through. Perhaps this is because I could sense that not everything would be wrapped up in a neat bow. The trilogy ended in an imperfect way, because no war has a happy ending. If it was overly happy, that would have been inappropriate, especially with all that the characters had been through. I ended the book feeling a little scarred, just like them.

Bring on the movies. I think it's time to change gears and read something light and fun....
