Nerd Field Trip and a Giveaway Winner!
Guess where we went after work today? Go on, guess!
The Shorewood Public Library! A fantastic field trip for this nerd.
Unlike my favorite tv character, Leslie Knope, I love libraries. Love em. My favorite part of summer as a child was doing the summer reading program at the library. I think you would get a personal pizza coupon from Pizza Hut if you finished - score! I have spent a lot of quality time at both the Ames Public Library and the University City Public Library over the past six years, and still tend to read the most during the summer months. Nothing like reading a library book at the swimming pool. I am such a risk taker.
Sadly, while we were living in Waukesha for seven months, I did not visit the public library once. In fact, I avoided it like the plague. You need to understand that while I was a frequent visitor back in high school, I was not always great about returning my books on time. I may have stopped using my own card because of the fines that I racked up, and switched to using my mom's card instead (I think she's paid all of the late fines I put on her card by now, oops). My fear is that the moment I step foot in the Waukesha Public Library a bunch of sirens are going to go off, indicating that I owe them a ridiculous amount of fees from my short stint as a patron from 2000-2001. My picture is probably posted on the wall of the librarian's office as a repeat offender for late returns. And while I probably have the money to pay those fines now, I just don't want to. Do they charge interest? They should really should develop some kind of amnesty policy and forgive them after a certain period of time. Those fines seem to discourage reading...
Luckily, Shorewood is on the Milwaukee County system, so I was in the clear to get my brand spanking new library card. Yeah!
On this journey, I checked out I Am Half-Sick of Shadows: A Flavia de Luce Novel , the next in the Flavia de Luce series. I will likely finish the third book tonight. Can't wait to start the fourth.
Let's start the summer off with no late fees!
AND....
